The different phytopharmaceuticals hypoglycaemic antidiabetic activities in an epinephrine hyperglycaeimia model and alloxan diabetes in rats and mice have been studied. Some new biocultural ginseng radix medicines - "Bioginseng". "Panaxel" - were compared with officinal ginseng tincture, as well as other adaptogenic and nonadaptogenic phytopharmaceuticals. All ginseng medicines application have resulted in 19.7-43.3% decrease of blood glucose level in both epinephrine hyperglycaemia and experimental diabetes model and 1.7-2.1 times increase of blood insulin in rats with alloxan diabet. Echinopanax elatus tincture, Eleutherococcus senticosus, Rhodiola rosea and Rhaponticum cartamoides extracts have also demonstrated clear antihyperglycaemic and insulin stimulating activity. Gnaphaliulm uliginosum, Achillea millefolium, Betula pendula and Filipendula ulmaria decoctions were documented to reduce experimental epinephrine and diabetic hyperglycaemia by 12.7-45.2% but not to elevate the decreased blood insulin level. Aralia mandschurica, Schizandra chinensis tinctures, Bidens tripartita, Acorus calamus, Inula helenium, Inonotus obliquus, Hypericum perforatum and Chamomilla recutita decoctions have not demonstrated real antihyperglycaemic effectiveness in both experimental models used. The significant correlation between antioxidant antidiabetic properties of plant under the investigation were also found. The possible antidiabetic mechanisms and perspectives of effective medicines mentioned above in diabetes (type I or II) complex therapy are also discussed.
